{on my wish list} vintage edition board games

Vintage edition Monopoly, Restoration Hardware

I've been on the lookout for a Monopoly set that would fit my style--simple, unpretentious...and as much as possible, not plastic. The thing is, the only ones available here in the Philippines are the ones that come in the standard cardboard box. And that's fine, especially if you plan on collecting all the editions, but I want something more adult-looking, something that would last. I do remember seeing a box set in magazine ads in the 90's, but the gold-plated hotels, silver-plated houses and polished hardwood was a bit too chi-chi for me. I knew I had to wait for something better to come along.

Well, it's here! I couldn't believe it when I came across this one on Restoration Hardware. It's like someone took all of my ideas and put them together for me: Simple wooden box. Vintage looking hardware. Die-cast pieces. And, white board backing! (It's usually blue) This is definitely going on my Christmas wish list! Or my Birthday wish list. Or my Just Because wish list...yeah, I really want this. But then again, who doesn't love Monopoly?!

By the way, they also have vintage editions for Scrabble, Bingo, Clue, Backgammon & Chess, Mini Chess & Checkers, Poker, and Dominoes. (find them here)

Oh and for those of you who want a wooden box set for the kids, here's one that I found on amazon:

the book that starts it all

Do you ever judge a book by its cover? I do. There's just something about a good cover that makes me think that what's inside will be just as good, if not better. So whenever I'm at a bookstore (and I'm always at a bookstore) and there's a book that catches my eye, you can bet I'll head straight for it.

And that's exactly what happened when I saw this...

Nevermind that it's actually a bestselling classic or that it's been on my must-read list all along. All I noticed was the bright orange and retro-esque graphics. I had to have it! So after my requisite examination of all available copies (more on that on a later post), I finally made my purchase.

Isn't it pretty? I couldn't wait to read it! But what's more surprising was I couldn't wait to let everyone see how beautiful it was, it actually made me want to start a blog! So here it is...the book that starts it all.

p.s. The story turned out to be really, really good! If you haven't read it yet, I say head on out to the bookstore and get yourself a copy--with this cover, if you can!
